Kenyan Tribe Where Widows ‘Sleep’ With Their Dead Husbands Before Burial

These customs may seem “weird” to people from other cultures. The strangest and most fascinating ceremonies and beliefs, nevertheless, appear to be practiced by the Nyanza people. 

For instance, did you know that, prior to burial, widows in the luo community are required to spend the night in the same chamber as their departed spouses? 

Some believe that this is a step in a purification process, preparing these ladies for inheritance.

Widows are said to have a bizarre “required dream” in which they offer their departed spouses one more kiss and embrace in order to be deemed “freed” and prepared for remarriage. 

More intricate cleansing techniques are used if the dream is never realized. 

This is just one illustration of the odd and unique civilizations that were formerly prevalent in Luoland.
