Where Toilet Waste Go in a Plane While Still in The Air

If you’ve ever flown on a plane or not, you may have thought about what happens to waste after someone uses the restroom.

While most people may think that planes store poo on the flight until they land, others may think it’s dropped mid in the air.

Where does the waste go?

What actually happens is that waste is sucked through a vacuum to a large holding tank on the plane and is vacuumed out upon landing by ground crew.

For over 30 years, planes have used vacuum toilets so that they don’t have to carry unneccessary water, which would drastically add to the weight.

When the plane is on the ground, trucks attach a hose to the plane to suck the waste into the truck.Once the tank has been emptied, another hose is used to disinfect the tank
