Former OTHAYA MP Wambui became the subject of media attention after former head of state Kibaki became President with the peak coming seven year later when the President called a press conference only to insist that he only had one wife.

While the Head of State and his wife, the late Lucy Kibaki, blamed the media for claiming that he had another wife  the blame was partly on the President’s handlers.
Wambui was seen shopping at a nearby supermarket while being escorted by special GSU officers from the Recce Squad, which is tasked with protecting the President and the first family, a few days after Kibaki claimed to have only one wife.

While rumors that Wambui was Kibaki’s wife aroused discussion when he was president, the subject all but died off after he left office.

Kibaki was there during Anne Wakarima Wambugu’s funeral in Gatugi, Othaya, in 2015. Wambui remarked to mourners during the funeral that Kibaki felt right at home because he was a member of the family.
