The globe is filled with many odd, difficult-to-understand cultures, but they are all fascinating enough to lure others into their discussion.
“Venezuela and a few parts of Brazil are home to the Yanomami tribe, commonly known as Yanam or Senema in South America. This tribe still maintains its cultural traditions and is resistant to modernisation and westernization.”
This tribe engages in an odd cannibalistic-like practice known as endocannibalism. Endocannibalism is the practice of consuming the flesh of a deceased member of the same tribe, group, or culture.

A aboriginal tribe by the name of Yanomami has the belief that the soul must be retained after death. They assert that the soul can only rest properly and transition into the next life once the body has been burned by fire and eaten by the surviving kin.
“In contrast to the conventional funeral practice of burying, this native Indian tribe burns the body of the deceased and paints their faces with the ash from the charred body. They sing and cry to show their grief over the passing of the relative.”
During the second step of the burial, the ashes from the burned bodies are combined with the powdered bones that were left over after the bodies were burned.
This tribe’s traditional cuisine, banana soup, is made by combining it with bananas and served to everyone.
They contend that this burial ceremony is the sole way for the soul to achieve eternal peace.
“Only the women, however, drink the ashes after an adversary kills a member of the family or a villager before exacting some sort of punishment on the murderers. The event takes place the same night that the villagers might raid the enemy’s territory in retaliation.”
What do you think of this tribe’s members and their customs? It seems a little spooky to me.
