Remember Samuel Kivuitu, See His Last Words To Kenyans About What Killed Him.

-Although though election violence was not new, 2007 was the deadliest year on record for the nation. More than 600,000 Kenyans were forcibly evicted from their homes, and more than 1,300 Kenyans lost their lives.

During the infamous 2007 general elections, Kenyans focused their ire on one individual in particular: Samuel Kivuitu, the former head of the Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK) and current chair of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), who presided over the “bloody Elections.”
Samuel Kivuitu responded in this way when asked about the results of the presidential election. To be honest, he should not have stated those things because Kenyans had high expectations for him as the ECK head. His “careless” remarks merely raised the possibility that the election was not impartial.

Although though election violence was not new, 2007 was the deadliest year on record for the nation. More than 600,000 Kenyans were forcibly evicted from their homes, and more than 1,300 Kenyans lost their lives. There is documentation of how Kiambaa Church caught fire while people were inside. How we hope to never again come upon that way.

The former ECK Chair, who was 74 years old, passed away from throat cancer on February 25, 2013. Kivuitu had this to say about his own death before he passed away: “I did not die of cancer; I died of shattered heart attempting to help the People of Kenya.”
