Additionally, there is a terrible undercurrent to the photographs given that millions of Nigerians die from AIDS each year and that tens of thousands of persons in the s3x trade are diagnosed with HIV every year.
According to a poll done last year, attitudes regarding condom use are contributing to the spread of the disease, and estimates place the prevalence of HIV among Nigerian s3x workers at close to 25%.

In Badia, five clients are entertained daily by sex workers as young as 14, who are working to support themselves.

The survey revealed that the rate has decreased from 5% in the early 2000s due to investment and education, but it noted that there was still some progress to be made.
